Special Topics in Calamity Physics

In the book "Special Topics in Calamity Physics" by Marisha Pessl, Blue (the main character) is not seeking friends, but Hannah Schneider, a teacher at her school takes a liking to her when she first comes to the school. Hannah has a group of students that all meet on weekends to eat dinner. Blue is thrust into a group of people that don't like her all that much. Even though the group dislikes her, Blue still feels obligated to come because of Hannah's invitation and expectations that she will come.

Blue is ignored by everyone but Hannah, and when Hannah acknowledges her it is even more awkward. This causes Blue to draw less attention to herself, and this makes the other kids like her less because they think she is odd and shy. Hannah would also tell the kids to invite her places which also made her whole situation worse.

Eventually, the kids start liking her, but they still don't trust or like her enough to be good friends with her. The problem of the kids in the group not liking Blue is being solved gradually. This relates to the real world because people judge too quickly in "Special Topics in Calamity Physics" and people judge quickly in the real world too.
